Professional Development 2010Directed by the Artistic Director of Flatfoot Dance Company, Lliane Loots, using the dancers from Flatfoot and five other dancers, Bhakti offered another step in our linking with each other. Auditions took place and publicity was done, all acknowledging the NDLTF. Rehearsals were held during October. Thanks to the Lotteries funding, KZN DanceLink was able to bring some of the professional dancers in KwaZulu-Natal together to make a work rooted in the dance styles in their different, and yet the same, human bodies; they were involved in the choreographic process, so this was predominantly a development project as well as a professional production one.Essentially a dance work supported by the musicians, poet and videographer, the company had to navigate different dance trainings and styles to find common ground and in doing so produced a dance theatre piece about joy, light and the simple yet deeply complex devotion artists have towards dance, music and theatre-making. The process of producing this work was one of collaboration whereby the dancers and the musicians worked together fusing their various styles and learning from each other, guided by the director. Bhakti was performed over four days in November in The Playhouse Drama Theatre.
