Surialanga Dance Company
SURIALANGA DANCE COMPANY has become renowned in KZN for its fusion of African Traditional dance and the Classical Indian style of Bharatha Natyam.

Dance Development

Company took contemporary classes at UKZN supported by Dancelink, and at Natya Kalanjali from Indian dance expert Satyabama Kollapen. During the year they were tutored by Smitha Radhakrishnan from  the US.  They also trained in hiphop.  Both the contemporary and hiphop training are continuing
Dance Tuition
3 sites Grades 3,4 and 5 Hillview Primary School Resevoir Hills,
Saturday classes at Pioneer School  Phoenix in collaboration with Stonebridge Cultural Movement and classes with Maris Stella girls. Had public performances by participants on  all sites.
-Workshops with international dance students from Reunion Islands which also led to a performance in Chatsworth Stadium

March
-Ponaadai (golden shawl) award ceremony honouring Logie Naidoo and Billy Nair-Sibiya , Durban
-Hare Krishna Fesival >Bay of Plenty, Durban

April
-Litturgical dancers for the ordination of 3 priests from the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate at Emmanual Cathedral backed by live choir of 200 voices. Will perform again as part of the ordination of the Catholic Bishop and the celebration of the 25th year of service of Cardinal Napier at the ICC Durban on 25 Feb 2006

May
-In Depth- international conference at uShaka Marine World Durban
-Prof Suria Govender received the Ponaadai (golden shawl ) award in recognition of her contribution to dance
Her students from Stonebridge Community Project, Phoenix, participated in KZN DanceLinks’s Imbumba 2005 as part of the National Creative Arts Youth Festival at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre

June
Durban Fashion Week supporting Nadia Meer’s and Andrew Verster’s creations at Exhibition Centre ,Durban
The Phoenix students participated in KZN DanceLink’s Sharp Sharp Dance during The Playhouse Company’s Hip Kulcha Festival,

July
- Through the month appeared on television on all international SAA flights in programme honouring ex-President Mandela
- World Heritacge conference directed by David Goldie-ICC Durban
- IEEE engineering conference-UKZN
- Stonebridge Community Project participated in the restaged Sharp Sharp Dance for the ABH Fair in Chatsworth at the end of the month.

Inauguration entertainment programme of the Vice chancellor of UKZN-Durban
The Stonebridge Community Project students participated in KZN DanceLink’s Dance for Youth production at God’s Golden Acre, Cato Ridge
