For the second year running we performed our annual youth dance performance project at the Amphimarket
on Durban’s Marine Parade in July. Two dance works were shown. One choreographed and taught by
Sbonakaliso Ndaba worked within contemporary dance and was upbeat and urban; the other choreographed
and taught by Ntombi Gasa and Varsha Sharma which combined indlamu with Bharatha Natyam and Indian
folk dance.
The participating groups were Cato Manor Vibe!!, Dudlu Ntombi, God’s Golden Acre,
Uyaba Dance Company, Hlanganani Traditional Orchestra, Phenduka’s Saturday morning class,
and Durban Children’s Home. (Some groups who had been planning to participate were hit by the
back-to-school in the school holidays instruction, so our numbers were almost halved)
Once again we were flanked, both between and after our performances, by the vibrant sounds and
sights of the Umlazi Branch of the Field Band Foundation. Stall-holders, passers-by, shoppers,
tourists, dance fundis, all found something to enjoy and marvel at.

The National Arts Council has offered KZN DanceLink R80,000 towards the rehearsals and staging of Giyani Lusha 2008.

KZN DanceLink acknowledges the financial support from 2005 to 2008 from the National Lotteries Distribution Trust Fund.
