(Dance, young people, dance.)

Following the success of Dance for Youth 2005, staged at
Gods Golden Acre in Cato Ridge, KZN Dance Link repeated the production for
2006. During the September holidays, 50 young performers gave up four days of
their school holidays to re-rehearse. Sbonakaliso Ndaba (Phenduka Dance
Theatre) directed the production as she so ably has each year. The diversity
and vigour of all of the groups contributed immensely to the success of this
years production, as each one brought their own unique dance form and shared
their skills with pride and enthusiasm.
Sbonakaliso was
assisted by Phenduka Dance Theatre members, all of whom are graduates of their
training programme, and therefore former performers in Dance for Youth. The
participating groups were Cato Manor Vibe!! Phenduka trainees, Stonebridge
Community Project from Phoenix,
Dudlu Ntombi, Gods Golden Acre, and Uyaba Dance Company.
The big change was the moving of the production to the Amphimarket on the Durban beachfront which holds a popular
fleamarket every Sunday. Once again we were flanked, both before and after our
performance, by the vibrant sounds and sights of the Umlazi Branch of the Field
Band Foundation
KZN DanceLink acknowledges the financial support from 2005 to 2008 from the National Lotteries Distribution Trust Fund.
